Feline Friendly & Cat-Only Hours

July 27, 2018

We love cats! Taylor Crossing Animal Hospital in east Montgomery is a Feline-Friendly Animal Hospital!

Our veterinary hospital is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and is the ONLY Certified Cat-Friendly Practice® in Montgomery. When designated as a CFP, veterinary clinics have proven they have taken specific extra steps to assure they understand a cat's unique needs, have implemented feline-friendly standards, and have made changes to decrease stress and provide a more calming environment, such as feline-only waiting areas or exam rooms.

As a Certified Cat-Friendly Practice, our veterinary staff members have also been trained in feline-friendly handling and understanding cat behavior in order to increase the quality of care for your cat. Dr. Jessica Loch is one of only 4 veterinarians in Montgomery to be a certified AAFP veterinarian who is passionate about the care of cats. Our veterinary staff has also been trained in feline-friendly handling and understanding cat behavior in order to increase the quality of care for your cat.

Reducing Stress for Your Cat's Next Appointment

Our veterinary clinic has a separate cat entrance and cat exam rooms to decrease the stress for our cat patients. Other ways cat owners can to reduce stress on your cat's appointment include:

  • Setting the cat's carrier out one week in advance allowing your cat to become accustomed to it. Make sure you leave the carrier door open so your cat can explore it at will. Reward with treats as a positive
    • Once accustomed to the carrier, go on fun rides and reward with treats during and after.
    • Cover the carrier with a blanket and consider placing stress-reducing products in or around the carrier (see below for our recommendations).
  • Coming hungry to the vet appointment - Cats will be more receptive to treats given at our vet clinic if hungry.

Feliway is a synthetic feline pheromone that mimics a cat's natural pheromone used to mark their territory as safe and secure. Feliway creates a state of familiarity and security to help comfort and reassure cats. Multiple products are available including carrier wipes, diffusers, and sprays.
